Pup Squad Rescue is dedicated to saving abandoned dogs at the shelter. We focus primarily on the sick because these dogs are usually back in ‘isolation’ rooms and do not get seen by the public, or they have conditions that are simply unattractive and nobody wants them. The sadness of this is that so many of these dogs can be transformed with good veterinary care. To us, your money doesn’t just make a difference. It’s truly the difference between life and death.
Take pug pups, Grisbi and Ella who were dumped by a backyard breeder not wanting to deal with their severe demodectic mange and coughing. This is how they looked when we rescued them from the shelter…
And here’s what their new mom, Christine has to say…
Bullied by tear-jerking Sarah MacLaughlin PSAs about homeless dogs - I started out looking to adopt a fawn, male pug as a companion for my French Bulldog. The first pups I found that needed rescue were these two kids who were just
beginning their recovery from abandonment & a hideous case of mange. They seemed very tightly bonded but I wasn't positive I could take on that much
responsibility at one time - especially since they might have undiagnosed chronic ailments - and I already had a very possessive & needy Frenchy at home who might not appreciate quite so much competition for my attention.
Well - after a day of reflection - I couldn't get them out of my mind & I knew I would never forgive myself if I let them get away. Two months later - they look like show dogs -- fat, fluffy, confident & HEALTHY. Their bond is greater for its complete inclusion of my French Bulldog, Dexter. Dexter has show them more kindness & generosity than I suspected he even possessed - and they have filled his days with romps in the yard, endless games tug-of-war and two very good reasons to finish all the food in his bowl. I think it would be impossible to
determine which of the four of us is the luckiest one in this story.
